Frank Mir: I dont know...

Frank Mir: I'll surprise him and catch him with something

"When I visualize the fight, I see it playing out something like this. We'll start off boxing for a little while, Junior will use his speed to try and get me out of there with punches, and he may even catch me with one or two. At that point I hit the deck, he'll rush into finish me – thinking I'm hurt – and I'll surprise him and catch him with something. Junior's tap will arrive fairly quickly, and the title belt will be wrapped around my waist not long after. That's how I'm picturing Saturday night …"

Frank Mir: I’m going to go ahead and strike with JDS

Are you surprised nobody in the UFC has been able to get Junior to the ground and really test him there?

Frank Mir: “It has (surprised me), especially the Shane Carwin fight. You can go back and look at some of my comments last year. I was very confident. Obviously Shane Carwin was not the boxer that dos Santos was, but I thought he’d be able to push him against the cage and get him down on the ground. And he was extremely unsuccessful and had a very hard time and got caught with a good right.”

Do you have to get dos Santos to the ground or can you stand up with him?

Frank Mir: “I’m going to go ahead and strike with him, probably more than Carwin wanted to and some of these other guys and try to lull him into lowering his striking defense. If I get him into a rhythm where it’s a boxing match, it will be easier to shoot or take him down. If you are shotting right of fthe bat and are grabbing a leg and that person’s waiting for it, it’s like any combat tactic. It’s very easy to stop what you are expecting.”

UFC 146 Primetime Dos Santos vs. Mir episode 1

Mir suggests JDS tries to garner self confidence

“I guess I can see where he’s looking at it. He was saying in the fights where I was in trouble, it’s hard to come back from, but I would point out in the Brock (Lesnar) fight I was under pressure the whole time in the first round, and I didn’t throw the towel in. In fact, in the second round, I came swinging and trying even more aggressively to take Lesnar out,” Mir said during a recent interview with MMAWeekly Radio.

“So I don’t know if I 100-percent agree with it.”

“I think maybe that’s just an assessment, and maybe it also draws confidence on his part. You’ve got to realize, the guy just watched me break his coach’s arm after he thought he had me out,” Mir stated.

“That’s kind of a scary proposition for him because in his mind it’s ‘okay, so if I hit him and knock him down, can I jump and grab this guy?’ Nogueira, who has been doing (jiu-jitsu) longer than him and more proficient at it had him out and went to slap on a choke, and he still reversed my coach and swept him and got on top, and put him into a surgical room shortly after. Sometimes, I think you say things to also garner confidence.”

Frank Mir: JDS has no chance of winning the fight if it goes to the ground

On ground game:
"As far as, when you fight dos Santos, I don’t think it’s any secret, he has no chance of winning the fight if it goes to the ground. If we go into a wrestling match, he’s in trouble. He has to keep it where he’s best at, and you know, he’s the best boxer in the heavyweight division."

On fight strategy:
"I think if you move away from him, in the past when you see anyone move back, he gains momentum coming forward and is able to generate that much more power. I think the best way to fight him is, you know, take how (Evander) Holyfield fought Mike Tyson. You can’t back up on a guy who’s very powerful and very quick. It only gives him momentum to build forward. You have to come forward and crash."

Frank Mir: I've had an easier time with elusive strikers

On hardest style matchup:
"Stylistically, actually Velasquez.

Anybody can run down the list of losses I've had, (Shane) Carwin and Brock (Lesnar) being the last two in the last 10 fights or so. I've had a harder time with guys that are straightforward grinders that'll pin you against the cage and hold you and try to take you down and stay on top and smother you.

Guys that are more elusive strikers and try to move around, I've had an easier time with. Cheick Kongo's a good striker. Mirko "Cro Cop" (Filipovic) is a good striker. Both are guys that I was very successful with."

On Nogueira's fight:
"I got caught with a punch (chuckles)

Roy Nelson hits extremely hard and I was able to fight with him for 15 minutes and be fine. Mirko 'Cro Cop' for almost all of three rounds never really landed a shot.

It's still a sport where a certain percentage are going to get through, and that happened with Nogueira. It's funny how people's memories are so short. Immediately, "Oh, gee, you suck at boxing."

The guy landed one punch. How many fights have I had where that hadn't happened, where I was able to slip and avoid? It eventually happens.

I remember, I think, (Kazuyuki) Fujita almost knocked out Fedor (Emelianenko) back in the day. Caught him with a forearm shot in Pride. Fujita is not known for his boxing at all. Who would be saying at that point in his career Fedor sucked at stand-up? "Oh look, he got caught and wobbled."

Very interesting interview.

Don Frye sees the future

"[Dan Henderson] doesn't have a fucking chance. So until he [Jon Bones Jones] moves up to heavy and has a hell of a fight against Junior Dos Santos no one will touch him," Don said. "Dos Santos is going to run the heavyweight division until Jones gets there. No one can challenge Dos Santos just like no one can challenge Bones at light heavyweight."

Dan Henderson: Looks like JDS hits hard

On fight with the UFC HW Champ Junior dos Santos:
"Looks like JDS hits hard, so I have to be rock careful out there and come out with a pretty good gameplan.. not just stand there and slug with him".

Who poses the biggest threat to Dan, Anderson Silva or Jon Jones?
"Anderson is definitely a better striker and a lot more accurate and long, a little awkward as well. His ground game is ok. Jon Jones is a little bit more well-rounded but not as good as a striker. And he is very awkward as well. I dont know who would be tougher. Jones is a little bigger but I never worried about size."
